Thuya Wood Products
Thuya burl has a high oil content, and is fairly firm and
dense, but tends to be brittle. The colors vary from a rich, golden brown to
almost black. The perfectly round eyes are scattered throughout the grain in
some burls similar to bird's-eye maple. Some patterns appear to be grouped more
like islands. Thuya is an exquisite, aromatic wood, and is used inlays for
wood products such as small boxes, turnery, and precious objects.
The
wood is
commonly known as Cedar, Desert Cedar or Western Red Cedar, however, the correct name is Thuya, Latin name Tetraclinis articulata.
